The first Sunday of August is celebrated as Friendship Day. This year, it will be observed on August 6. As Friendship Day is just around the corner, celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar has taken the initiative to make everyone aware of the foods that are our friends this monsoon season. The nutritionist has dropped a video, explaining her Instagram family to concentrate on three types of food —“Khushi, Tripti and Shanti.” She explains that to attain these in life you need good food on your plate.

Rujuta Diwekar talked about “three foods that you must not miss out on this season.” She began with “maka”, which is also known as Makai or corn. Rujuta advised that you can either boil or roast it and enjoy it with some salt and spices. The nutritionist said that you can also eat corn in the form of “pattice, butta or kadhi,” and urged all to savour it once or twice every week.

Next, she explained that “wild and uncultivated vegetables”, which are called “neglected and underutilised species”, are like friends who prefer to stay “low profile” and we don’t realise about them till they get “extinct”. Some vegetables that come under this are “kodu, patrode and lingdi.” She urges that you can consume, whichever is available in your area. She explains that these vegetables can be consumed in breakfast, prepared as a dish, or pickle. She said that you must consume these vegetables, as often as you can.

Lastly, she says that this season we can also savour our “childhood friend” or shall we say guilty pleasure—pakode, bhaji or fritters. Rujuta Diwekar said that you can eat it “once every month if not once every week.” While advising the type of fritters, she named “ajwain, aloo, pyaz or paneer”. She said that you can have 4 to 5 pieces of fritters when they are steaming hot and can relish them along with masala tea while enjoying the rain. She concluded by saying that incorporating these three in your life can help you be “friends with yourself.”
